On January 4, 2017, Apex Clean Energy hosted the Air Evac Lifeteam at the Kay Wind farm in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The purpose of this visit was to provide the Kay site team with landing zone training and to develop both personal and professional relationships with local emergency responders.
The first part of the training was conducted in an on-site classroom. Discussion topics included the equipment Air Evac uses, how their team staffs a helicopter, resource availability, and expectations that Air Evac had for the Apex Facility Management team and vice versa. The group also spent a considerable amount of time discussing potential hazards that existed for both teams.
Apex places a high priority on team member training and provides many opportunities throughout the year for facility managers to have experiences such as the Air Evac visit.
Once the classroom training was over, the Air Evac team landed their helicopter at the Kay site and provided more information about appropriate equipment and protocol before departing.
